The Ford government will announce in its budget on Thursday that “A Place to Grow” will be the new slogan on the licence plates of Ontario drivers.
Two sources in the government say the motto will replace “Yours To Discover” on the plates of personal vehicles.
The sources say the government is considering “Open for Business” as the slogan on commercial plates, but would not confirm if the decision has been made.
The Progressive Conservatives have faced criticism over the possibility that a catchphrase they have used politically would adorn the province’s licence plates.
Premier Doug Ford has defended his plan to change the slogan as a signal that a new government is running the province.
“A Place To Grow” comes from the song A Place to Stand, which has been an unofficial anthem for Ontario since its use in a film that played at the province’s pavilion at Expo 67.
